Welcome to the MYida Rose theatre

Since 1997 we have been providing confidence and social skills to children of all ages– and their parents. We bring together children, adults and families, fostering relationships and community, and giving everyone a chance to be part of a production.

Our Story

Founded in 1997 from my daughter dancing on table tops!

The Keene Centre for the Arts and its in house theatre The Myida Rose theatre (previosly known as The Assembly Hall Theatre and The Little Town theatre) has been adapting classic novels to create theatre with it’s community, especially with parents and their children for over 22 years. Our plays have been performed in Hamilton, Cambridge, Fergus, Elora, Norwood, Warkworth, Hastings and now Keene. Over the years we have had many families sign up who are interested in learning all the aspects of the theatre while creating a production with their child. Many of the participants have never been on stage before! Imagine being too shy to participate in your high school play but after joining our group you and your child work together and gain confidence on the stage. Imagine your 80 year old mother watching your final production with tears in her eyes. And the exciting memories you and your child will share as you participate together!

Imagine learning how to run the lights, the sound or creating a design for the set, with other adults who share your enthusiasm. Parents feel like they are part of the crew and each child is made to feel like a star! Often we have more than one child in each of the starring parts!

Actors of all ages select the parts they want to play and are given parts according to motivation not by any judgement on acting or singing skills.
